Ret. Lt. James P. Fasulo, Massachusetts State Police, 73, of Falmouth, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at home Thursday May 28, 2015 following an illness. He was the longtime companion and soul mate of 26 years to Martha A. Catalano, Retired Major, Massachusetts State Police. Born in Newton, MA September 1, 1941 a son of the late James A. and Mary E. (Poirier) Fasulo, he was a former resident of Yarmouth and Franklin, before moving to Falmouth in 2009. He was raised and educated in Waltham, and was a 1959 graduate of Waltham High School. He then attended Northeastern University obtaining a Bachelors degree in criminal justice and he also attended Anna Maria College and graduated in May 1985 with a Masters degree in criminal justice. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a United States Marine; he attained the rank of lance corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in January 1965. In January 1970, he entered the Massachusetts State Police as a member of the 54TH recruit-training troop and graduated April 24, 1970 as a Massachusetts State Trooper. Lieutenant Fasulo had a long and distinguished career; he was one of the first members of the Mass State Police Mounted Unit, 55 Team Unit, he served in uniform with Troops C, D & E, worked in the fingerprint & photography units, was a certified fingerprint expert, and taught arson and crime scene investigation. He rose through the ranks and retired as a Lieutenant in May 1996. He was a member of the Falmouth Lodge of Elks, the Massachusetts State Police Retired Troopers Association and the Massachusetts State Police Commissioned Officers. In addition to his soul mate Martha, he is survived by two daughters; Sondra Yablonski and her husband Dr. Jeffrey A. Yablonski of Sherborn, MA, Jaclyn Giovannone and her husband Edward of Sarasota, FL, a brother Robert J. Fasulo and his wife Carol of Plano, TX, sisters, Marilyn Luttazi of Hudson, and Gail Sacco and her husband Joseph of Las Vegas, NV, a step daughter Leisha Haughey of Wolfboro, NH. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren; Ava, Nicholas, Jacob Yablonski, Nicole, Gina, Antonio, and Rocco Giovannone. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with Military Honors Friday June 5th, at 10AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 11AM. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
