Salvatore Sarrica Obituary
Salvatore Sarrica 96, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home with his family at his side, Friday June 26,2015 following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Giovanna (Reda) Sarrica, who died in 1999. Born February 16, 1919 in Sicily, Italy, a son of the late Giorgio and Giovanna (LoVerde) Sarrica, he was raised and educated in Italy, and came to the United States, where he settled in Franklin in 1961. Salvatore worked as a track supervisor for Conrail and retired in 1982. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for the former Cooks Farms in Franklin. He served in the Italian Army during World War II. He attained the rank of corporal, was a prisoner of war, and honorably discharged following seven years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, playing cards, tending to his garden, fishing, & hunting, he also loved children, dogs and was a volunteer for the Franklin Food Pantry. Salvatore along with his late wife were devoted to the Church of Madonna Della Lettera in Cefalu, Italy, they donated chalices, which have been used by the church for many years and made many donations to St. Anthony of Padua. He was communicant of St. Marys Church in Franklin. He is survived by his children; George Sarrica and his wife Kathleen of Oregon, Frank Sarrica and his wife Joanna of Franklin, Mario Sarrica, Sr. and wife Cheryl of Norfolk and Joanne Chaiton and her husband, Rich of Franklin, 9 grandchildren; Maryellen Brownlee, David Sarrica, Mario Sarrica, Jr., Julie Heistand, Lorraine Gibbons, Bobby & Anthony Chaiton, Carla Cahill, great grandchildren; Nickolas & Kassandra Brownlee, Hali,Brianna, Sydney & Dean Sarrica, Hunter & Harrison Heistand, Gianna& Ryan Gibbons, Faith Cahill and great great grandchildren Trevin Brownlee and Mia Sarrica. Salvatore was the grandfather of the late Frank Sarrica, Jr. and was predeceased by 3 sisters and 1 brother. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday July 1st, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Franklin at 10AM. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
