Obituary Condolences

Bernard Burke, of Belmont, passed away peacefully Friday October 18th, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge at the age of 91. Born on August 31, 1922 in Belmont; son of the late Martin and Loretta (Mills) Burke, Bernie was a lifelong resident of Belmont. A graduate of Belmont High School, Bernie worked in management with the Chrysler Corporation throughout his life and retired from Burlington Dodge. He was a proud United States Army World War II Veteran serving with the 854th Coast Artillery Battalion. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society of Saint Joseph's Church in Belmont. Family was the most important part of his life, he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed discussing politics, following the Boston Red Sox and most of all he loved walking; so much that the family nicknamed the woods near his home "Grampa's Woods". He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Beverly F. (Brown) Burke, his devoted & Loving children Sharon Corbett and her husband James of Waltham, Doreen Burke Joyal and her husband Rock of Waltham and Paul Burke of Belmont, his cherished grandfather of Jennifer Ann, Kristin Marie, Kathleen Lynn, Ashley Jean and Heather Elise and great grandchildren Oden James and Zaya Corbett. In addition he is survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral Services were held from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, 325 Trapelo Rd, BELMONT with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Bernards Life at Saint Josephs Church. Interment with United States Army Military Honors will followed at Belmont Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American , 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
