Catherine Clifford died on 19 November 2013 at the age of 104. She was born in Belmont and spent most of her life there. When Belmont Police hired School Traffic Supervisors, now called crossing guards, in the early 1950s she was one of the first five hired. She worked at the Kendall school for 20+ years and served as the matron for the Belmont Police Department. After her retirement, Catherine and her husband John moved to Louisiana where she lived for twenty-five years. Catherine enjoyed many years of volunteer work at the VA hospital and was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Catherine was the sister of the late Mary Jester, Thomas Gunning and Sister Anne Regis (Agnes) Gunning. Today, she leaves behind her daughter Patricia Dixon of Belmont, son John Kevin Clifford of Louisiana and the late Virginia (Jean) Shelton. Catherine was the grandmother of fourteen: Cindy Dixon, Sandra Laino, Denise Gellar, William Dixon, Kathleen Robinson, Michael, Steven and Richard Shelton, Elizabeth Lewis, Sean and Thomas Clifford, and the late Thomas Shelton, and Richard and Diane Dixon. Catherine had twenty-one great grandchildren and nineteen great great grandchildren. Catherine Clifford is in the heart of many and will be greatly missed. Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Friday at 8:00 AM. Followed by a funeral mass at St Josephs Church 124 Common Street Belmont at 9:00 AM.
