Peter Reich, M.D., 82, of Cambridge MA died Aug. 11, 2013 in the Adirondack Medical Center of complications of acute myelogenous leukemia. A resident of Belmont for 45 years, he graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1956, did a medical internship at Brigham & Women's Hospital and residency in psychiatry at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. Dr. Reich was head of the Division of Psychiatry at Brigham & Women's Hospital and a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Subsequently he served as the head of the Mental Health Service in the Medical Department at MIT. Throughout his career Dr. Reich maintained a small private practice. He was a member of the Belmont Town Meeting from 1998 until 2007. He is survived by his wife, Lee C. Reich, brother Charles, son Daniel, daughter Alice, daughter-in-law Mary Draper, grandchildren Emma & Maia Draper-Reich, Ethan & Janet Spingarn. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2pm at the Wong Auditorium, Tang Center, MIT Building E-51. Entrance at 2 Amherst Street, Cambridge, MA. Parking will be available Hayward Parking Lot, 21 Hayward Street, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Adirondack Council, P.O. Box D-2, Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
