Margaret Guyer Obituary
Margaret Peg Guyer, 81, of Beverly, died in her home on Wednesday, October 4, following a brave battle with Parkinsons Disease. Born in Jamestown, North Dakota, Peg and her husband Bob have lived in the Beverly Cove since 1961 where they raised two children and were active in many aspects of the community. Following the completion of her Masters Degree in English Literature from Boston University, Peg worked as a Music teacher at Mrs. Alexanders School in Beverly, and in the Continuing Education office at Simmons College in Boston. Peg was beloved for many things including her kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion. She had a selfless spirit and took wonderful care of those closest to her. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the arts, culture and literature. Peg and Bob frequently attended the Boston Symphony Orchestra and art exhibits at Bostons art museums. Peg had been an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Beverly, was a charter member of the League of Women Voters chapter in Beverly and gave generously of her time to many causes. Her commitment to supporting children and families was particularly evident in her work with the Beverly Children's Learning Center. She and Bob were two of the driving forces in founding the center in the early 1970s. The Beverly Pre-School Learning Center, as it was known then, started with 14 children in the basement of St. Peter's Church. Today, the Center is licensed to serve 163 children, infants through age 13, in its new state-of-the-art space at 550 Cabot Street. Peg is survived by Bob, her husband of 61 years, her daughter Leslie Granese and her husband Bob, and her son Charlie Guyer and his wife Pam. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Kaili Guyer, Cameron Guyer, Colby Guyer, Shae Granese, Maya Granese, Spenser Granese and Jackie Granese. Her funeral service will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean Street, Beverly, on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the Beverly Children's Learning Center, 550 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915 (www.bclckids.org/ donate-online).
