Richard Morton Loomis, 68, of Manchester, MA died October 10th, 2013 after a valiant battle against cancer. Rich graduated as an Eagle Scout, First Prefect and Valedictorian from Harvard School where he was a CAIF swimmer. He then spent a year abroad on an exchange with the English-Speaking Union where he attended Kings College in England. In 1968, Rich graduated Cum Laude from Yale College where he was a member of the swim team, Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Yale Daily News. After serving as a communications officer on the USS Ogden in the Vietnam War, Rich enrolled at Yales Law School where he graduated in 1974. Rich practiced with Hinckley, Allen, Salisbury and Parsons in Providence, RI then spent 20 years with Bechtel Corporation in their Gaithersburg, MA and San Francisco, CA offices. In 2004 Rich retired after working as General Counsel for the MA-based international development firm, InterGen. Before contracting cancer, Rich relished the opportunities retirement provided for travel, gardening, sailing, long walks, home projects and volunteering at the local library. An avid reader of world history and politics, Richs love for books helped him pass the time while fighting cancer. Rich is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth McKinley Loomis of Manchester, MA; daughter Molly Loomis Tyson of Victor, ID; siblings Mary Dorn and David Loomis and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. His steadfast friendship and love for friends and family, sharp mind, spirit of inquiry and quick wit will be greatly missed.
