Mario Paul Ciara died Tuesday August 27th at Falmouth Hospital. Mario is survived by his wife Elaine Collins Ciara, two daughters Susan Hathaway and Ann Olsen, and his sister, Gina Macone. Born March 27th, 1931 in Gaeta, Italy, he emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 4. Mario was raised in Somerville, MA, graduated Massachusetts Maritime Academy as a Mechanical Engineer, and served as a Lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy. Mario married Paula Tippett in Baltimore, MD in 1960. They raised their daughters in Hamilton, MA and later Harvard, MA. He worked for General Electric Company, first in Lynn, then Fitchburg, for over 35 years. Marios career in the Steam Turbine Division took him all over the world to such unusual locations as Russia during the Cold War, Borneo, Algeria, as well as numerous trips throughout Europe and Japan. Mario and Paula retired to North Falmouth and he has been active with GEs Elfun Group and MOAA. After Paula passed away in 2004, Mario married Elaine Collins in August 2009. A Funeral mass was held at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church in N. Falmouth, MA Tuesday September 3rd at 10:00 AM.
