Johnson, Janet D. - Acton  
Janet D. (Foster) Johnson, of Acton, passed away on August 23, 2015 at the age of 84. Janet was born in Melrose, MA on June 9, 1931 to Harry A. and Dorothea B. (Norwood) Foster. Janet graduated from Wakefield High School in the class of 1949 and from the Chandler School for Women, Boston, MA in 1951. She worked for several years for the Boston & Maine Railroad in Boston and after moving to Maine in 1956 with her husband. She also worked for the Hathaway Shirt Company in Maine before becoming a full time homemaker. Janet devoted her life to her husband and raising their children whom she loved dearly. She especially enjoyed being Mrs. Santa Claus at Christmas. She served on many committees and loved her involvement with the Altar Guild at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Acton. Janet is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harry Johnson, whom she met in the first grade of grammar school in Wakefield, MA; a son Paul E. Johnson and his wife Kathryn of Sebago, ME; a daughter, Lisa J. Johnson of Gorham, ME and a daughter, Beth A. Johnson of Lynnfield, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Johnson and his wife Margaret of Princeton, NJ and Heidi Johnson and her husband Corey Sullivan of Marlboro, MA; and great granddaughter, Eleanor Johnson of Princeton, NJ. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 29th at 11:00AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd,164 Newtown Rd., Acton. Burial will be private. Null, Donald - Acton  
Donald Null died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 27, 2015. He is survived by Wanda, his wife of fifty years, his daughters and their husbands: Laara & Kieran Ayre of Randolph, NJ and Karen & Ken Iwamoto, of Bolton, MA. He also leaves three grandchildren: Meghan and Caitlin Ayre and Grant Iwamoto, and was looking forward to the arrival of his fourth grandchild. He was the son of Milton and Mary Null and is survived by his siblings Gloria Veneklausen of MI, Milton Null Jr. of IN and his twin brother Ronald Null of FL. Don was predeceased by his sisters, Berdine Gertz and Delores Yeakey, and his brother Paul Null. Don was born in 1943 and lived in Elkhart, Indiana until he left home to attend Purdue University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He came to Massachusetts in 1967 to work for Missile Systems Division of Raytheon Corporation, retiring as Senior Engineer in 1999. In his career at Raytheon he had numerous field assignments at Eglin Air Force Base (FL), White Sands Testing Grounds (NM), and Huntsville (AL) among other locations. A ham radio operator (W1FDK) since his teen years, he had a lifelong interest in electronics, constantly designing, building and testing his own equipment. From 1970-1990, Don was a member of Minuteman Power Squadron, sailing his 23 sloop moored in Marblehead. After retirement, he & Wanda traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad; the favorite trip was to Australia and the cruise to New Zealand. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the America Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA. 01701. Pinsky, Bernard - Acton  
Bernard (Bernie) Pinsky, 89, a long time Acton resident, passed away August 27th, 2015 in Kansas. Bernie was raised in Forest Hills, New York, enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served in WWII after which he studied electrical engineering at CCNY. Bernie found employment at RCA, Laser Graphics and Raytheon working on Air Force One and the Apollo lunar module. In his later years he was a docent at The House of Refuge, Jupiter light house, FL. Bernie married Katherine Collins (now deceased) in 1945 and had five cherished children. In 1966 he married his beloved second wife Constance Desrosier Pinsky (now deceased). Bernie was a loving father to Lawrence and his wife Brenda of TX, Michael and his wife Janis of PA, Gordon and his wife Mary Ann of KS, A. Susan Feeney and her husband Brian of NH, and David and his wife Susan of Acton. Bernie is also survived by 16 grandchildren and their spouses: Joe and Crystal Pinsky, Matt and Melissa Pinsky, Brett and Lisa Pinsky, Adam Pinsky and Joel Clayton, Katherine and Kevin Ruprecht, Jeff and Tara Pinsky, Joshua Pinsky, Jackie and Derek Zepp, Daniel Pinsky, Stephanie and Levi Marcus, Jill Pinsky, Allison and Brian Boulet, Kaitlin Feeney, Esther Pinsky, Hannah and Robert Eisenberg, and Leah Pinsky. Bernie is also survived by 14 great grandchildren -and counting. Services will be held at Congregation Beth Elohim, 133 Prospect St Acton MA at 11:00 AM Friday Sept 4th, interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Acton. The family will be sitting Shiva and receiving visitors Friday Sept 4th 17 Milldam Rd Acton, 3:00 PM-7:30 PM. Studer, John - Acton  
John R. Studer, 88, of Acton, died August 23, 2015. Son of the late William and Agnes Studer, he was a graduate of Boston University and retired from the banking industry where he worked in computer operations. John served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Margaret (Fabrizi); their children, Stephen of CT, John Jr. of Acton, Richard of FL, Karen Wilson of Westford, David of ME; his sister Janet Kelly of OH; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Michael, his brother Paul and his sister Sr. Jacqueline RSM. Visiting hours are Fri. Aug. 28th 4-8pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sat. Aug. 29th at 10am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton. Burial will be private. Birt, David - BOXBOROUGH  
David Leslie Dave Birt, 79, of Boxborough and formerly of Greenfield, died peacefully Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Page) Birt, to whom he was married for 58 years. Born in San Diego, he was one of three children of the late Frank P. and Agnes M. (Wiggins) Birt. A graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1954, Mr. Birt was committed to public service from an early age. While still in high school he enlisted in the National Guard, then upon graduation served on active duty with the US Army Airborne from 1954 to 1957 followed by another year with the National Guard. In 1958 he began his career with IBM, taking on many tasks with increasing responsibility. At the time of his retirement in 1987 he was the assistant facilities manager at the Waltham office. Mr. Birt enjoyed golf and reading, and being active in the community was his passion. He served the Town of Boxborough in several positions through the years, including terms as Selectmen from 1987-1990 and 2000-2003, Election Warden, Constable from 1996-until the present, and was a member of the Town of Boxborough Personnel Board, Council on Aging, and the Steele Farm Advisory Committee. A certified EMT Instructor Trainer, for 10 years Mr. Birt was a firefighter/EMT and later Lieutenant and EMT Training Officer for the Boxborough Fire Department. He was also a longtime member of the Harvard Sportsmens Club, longtime member and past captain of the Boxborough District Minutemen, and member and past president of the Rotary Club of Acton-Boxborough. Additionally, he served as a trustee of the Harvard Ridge Condominium for several years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lea Anne Blake and her husband Stephen of Keene, NH, and Leslie Birt and her husband Sean Daniels of Hillsboro, NH; a granddaughter, Maggie Faid of Hillsboro, NH; and a sister, Frances Princy Stotz of Greenfield, MA. He was the brother of the late Sarah Mae Boe. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, August 25th from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, August 26th at 1:00pm in South Cemetery, Burroughs Road, Boxborough with Rev. Katrina Wuensch officiating. A public memorial service will be held In September at the United Church of Christ-Boxborough with Rev. Cindy Worthington-Berry officiating, with the date and time to be announced. Curtis, David - Lexington  
Dr. David Arnold Curtis passed away on Monday August 17, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health Services in Brunswick, GA at the age of 76. He was born in Lincoln England on June 17, 1939. He was educated at Durham University where he received his Doctorate in Physics. His career was focused both on research and consultation to manufacturing companies internationally, the majority of the time with Arthur D Little, Booze Allen Hamilton, and Curtis Consulting. David came to the United States in 1968, where he resided in Lexington MA, Boxborough MA, and Marstons Mills MA, before moving to Saint Simons Island, GA. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Leah Curtis, daughter Helen (Jay) Quinn and sons Stephen Curtis, Jake Nazarian, and Josh (Jaclyn Altman) Nazarian. He is blessed in life, and after, by eight grandchildren; Emily Curtis, Rachel Curtis, Elizabeth Quinn, Sarah Quinn, Catherine Quinn, Jacob Nazarian, Sam Nazarian and Brooke Nazarian. He found great joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow and prosper. David loved to travel and enjoyed capturing his adventures by camera. He also gave back to the community and was actively involved with The American Red Cross. David was always an avid gardener. He was thrilled to join the Family Gardening Club of Saint Simons Island. Over time he expanded to two lots and shared his bounty with friends all over the island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Family Gardening Club, Saint Simons Island; 607 Sixth Avenue, St. Simons Island, GA 31522. In respecting his final wishes, a celebration of his life was held Sunday, August 23rd from 1pm-4pm at Duckett Funeral Home, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA 01776.
