Mary E. Pat Tobin, 97, a former longtime resident of Martin Street in Maynard, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Coleman House in Northborough. She was the beloved wife of the late John M. Chippy Tobin, and grandmother of the late Seamus Tobin. Born and raised in Stow, she was one of six children of the late Arthur Roy Patterson and Mary A. (Delorey) Patterson. Following their marriage, the Tobins settled in Maynard. Mrs. Tobin earned a nursing degree from St. Elizabeths Hospital in Brighton, and after raising her children was employed at the Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Concord before retiring. She was a former longtime member of the St. Bridgets Church Choir, and especially enjoyed their trip to Europe where they performed for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. She also enjoyed playing the piano and had a green thumb for house plants. She is survived by her children, John M. Jack Tobin Jr. and wife MaryLou of Show Low, AZ, Patricia Larie and husband Patrick of Pickett, WI, Kathleen Boothroyd and husband Paul of Maynard, Eleanor Earlie and husband Eugene of Northborough, Thomas Tobin and wife Norice, Theresa Hastings and husband Ed, and Julie Tobin all of Maynard; a sister Ruth Patterson of Maynard; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Robert, Arthur, George and Henry Patterson. Visiting hours were held Monday, March 25th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, March 26th at 11:00am in St. Bridgets Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard. Interment in St. Bridgets Cemetery will be at a later date.
