Such a pleasure to have met you at your granddaughter's wedding. My cousin worked with you and so did my neighbor. They spoke highly of you.

Dr. Frazier was the doctor who made me feel welcomed when I was applying for a residency in psychiatry back in 1963 -when he was the second in command at New York State Psychiatric Institute. As a result I chose "P.I." for my residency, Dr. Frazier was my model of a wonderful psychiatrist, and a man who took me under his wing, encouraged me, taught me, and was the man I hope to emulate. His heart was as big as his body. I kept in touch over the years, and had a long and pleasant chat with him when I was lecturing at McLean's a few years ago. I'm glad he had at least 93 years -though he was the sort of man of whom Jewish people say "soll leben bis hundert un' twantsich" May you live to a hundred and twenty!

Pat Riley and I were so honored to meet Dr. Frazier last summer at his granddaughter Lauren's wedding. What an amazing person! Turns out even some of my childhood friends knew and highly respected him, as he was well-known nationally as a leader in the field of psychiatry. Our love, condolences and prayers to Elise and to his whole family.

To Dr. Frazier's family; I am sure that you have heard from so many who feel they owe him their lives. I had heard about Sherv Frazier for years (he had treated my mother in the 60s in Houston) and arranged to pick him up at the airport so that I could finally meet the man himself. My mother's quixotic moods and deep depressions were inexplicable and I was struggling to comprehend this terrible illness. I recall him telling me "when I became a doctor, we had nothing to give to those who suffered from mental illness other than restraints." Sherv Frazier gave me hope that better and better treatments would be found. With gratitude for all that Dr Frazier did to advance the treatment of mental illness over the course of his long and productive career.

Dr. Frazier was one of the most important mentors I had as a forensic psychologist. He inspired so many mental health professionals.

I echo my brother's sentiments exactly! Because Dr. Frazier knew my whole family by the time I got to him, he was able to guide me through my own deep depression with skill, wisdom and compassion. I too, quite literally, owe him my life. I think of him often with deep gratitude, love, and respect.

In 1958, I was a college dropout in about as bad shape emotionally as it is possible to be and still be on the street. 18 years old and in desperate need of help. I "found" Shervert Frazier. He saw me everyday for six months and the three times a week for another six months. Then he nudged me out into life. At age twenty, I traveled through Europe and the Middle East by myself. Backpack, unaccompanied. He had worked a miracle. He was warm and empathetic, always responsive, attentive, and respectful of my intelligence. I went from being an emotional cripple, suicidal, to being a productive and confident, if unconventional, adult. I feel I owe him my life. Harvey Mudd, from France

As a clinical psychologist I met Sherv in 1973 when I joined the newly instituted Child and Adolescent Program at McLean. I always found him to be a very genuine, caring, compassionate man. I will never forget the day he came to meet with some of the child patients in our inpatient unit and they were all impressed with how he listened and responded to them with so much empathy and respect. He was truly a wonderful man and psychiatrist. Bob Brooks

One of Sherv's colleagues at McLean once described him as, "the greatest mind in American psychiatry." He was that, and so much more. He was generous with his time and genuine in his care and compassion. In his interactions with someone, be it a patient, nurse, counselor or custodian, he was fully engaged and interested in that person. As a recipient of this empathetic gift, I feel blessed to have known this remarkable man.

His generosity to others was limitless. He was a phenomenal teacher and mentor, and words do not adequately capture the influence he had on my training as a psychologist. It was an honor to know you. Rest in peace, Sherv.

We have lost one of the worlds greatest psychiatrists. He was my mentor at Psychiatric Institute forty five years ago and recently mentored our oldest son Brent P Forester while he was a psychiatric resident at Mclain hospital in Belmont Mass. We had all stayed in contact until his untimely death. All will miss his warmth and wonderful smile and sense of humor.Bruce M ForesterMD
