Nancy Draper Barter passed away peacefully on January, 14, 2012, at home with her niece, Lisa, at her side. Nancy was born in Gloucester Massachusetts to Marian (Joyce) (Draper) Niles and Francis A. Draper on December 31, 1925. She spent her childhood years in Gloucester, Salem and then Beverly. Nancy was the oldest of seven children. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Barter; her brother Jack Draper, and her sister Lois Laverdiere. In her early twenties she worked at General Electric during World War II, and as a dental hygienist. Nancy then attended beauty school and was employed in a few local hair salons. She eventually opened her own salon in Wenham. She made her home in Wenham for 65 years and then moved to Topsfield in 2009. Nancy was a kind and hardworking woman with a positive outlook on life. She made the best of very difficult situations and always looked forward to tomorrow. She enjoyed spending time with her family, having tea with her sisters, talking on the telephone, sharing recipes and discussing the most recent book she had read. She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Morse, Judith Sarcione, Joyce Barter and Kathleen Dix , one sister in-law, Pearl Draper, a neice, Lisa Draper-Small, and many nieces and nephews.
