Alton H. Cummings, 86, of Braintree passed away Aug. 26, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Rose Cummings. He is survived by his children, Patricia, John, Barry, Richard and Jay. He was the stepfather to Marianne, Patty, Sean and Scott Dyer. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a great great-grandchild. He will be remembered as the special Grandpa to Shawna, Evan and Aiden; beloved brother of the late Robert Cummings, Charles Cummings and Lois Finch. He was born in Quincy and lived in Abington, Quincy, Fort Myers, Fla., and Braintree. Alton was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in both the Army and Navy. He was the recipient of numerous medals including a Purple Heart. He enjoyed playing chess with his longtime friend John Lawson, playing bingo and taking day trips to Foxwoods. Memorial visiting hours were held at the Clancy- Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington Street, Weymouth Landing, Sunday, Sept. 1, from 1-4 p.m.
