Thelma I. (Libby) Ewing, age 88, of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bucksport, Maine, and was raised and educated in Braintree. Thelma graduated from Braintree High School, Class of 1943. She was a lifelong Braintree resident and a longtime summer resident of Barnstead, New Hampshire. Thelma worked as an administrative assistant at the former George Lawley & Sons Shipbuilding Company in Boston and at the former Armstrong Corporation in Braintree. In addition, she was a bookkeeper at the former Ports Oil Service, Inc. in Braintree and later worked for the Braintree school system in food service at the former Noah Torrey School for many years. She was a longtime active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Braintree. Thelma and her late husband, William, had been recently honored for their ten years of volunteer service with the Braintree Food Pantry and the Braintree Meals on Wheels program. Thelma treasured moments with her family and especially cherished times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beloved wife of the late William L. Ewing. Devoted mother of David S. Ewing of Braintree, Debra L. Wilson of Braintree and her late husband Michael A. Wilson and the late William L. Ewing, Jr. Mother-in-law of Joan Ewing and Karen Ewing both of Braintree. Loving grandmother of Jennifer Ewing, Melissa Goodwin, Jonathan Ewing, Chelsi Ewing, Lindsi Ewing, Tori Ewing, Jamie Wilson, and Michael Wilson. Loving great-grandmother of Grace, Jack, Lila, and Michael. Dear sister of the late Norma Yoerger, the late Ralph Libby and the late Richard Libby. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services was conducted at the First Baptist Church of Braintree, 594 Washington Street, Braintree, Monday, October 28th at 11 oclock. Reverend Robert A. Killeffer, Jr., Pastor, will officiate. Visiting hours were at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
