Richard J. Keohan Obituary
Richard J.Dick Keohan, age 75, of Braintree, died suddenly at home July 7, 2012. Born and reared in Weymouth, son of the late Edward and Josephine Keohan, Dick was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Industrial Design. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard while beginning a long, rewarding career inventing and designing products primarily in the technology and health care industries, where he holds numerous patents. For over 40 years, Mr. Keohan was self-employed and worked in partnerships with leading industrial designers in the Boston area. He was an instructor at Massachusetts College of Art for nearly 30 years, and was head of the Industrial Design Department prior to his retirement. In his field, he was known for his creativity, problem-solving abilities, and the breadth of his knowledge. He was a long-time member of the Industrial Design Society of America (I.D.S.A.), and highly regarded for his work in medical industry design. His colleagues and students admired and appreciated his endless generosity in giving of his time and energy to their endeavors. Dick is survived by his wife Alice (Cronin) Keohan; his daughter Elizabeth Keohan of Holliston, his son Edward and his wife Deb of Acton, his son David and his wife Song Mi of Henderson, NV, his daughter Jennifer Capuano and her husband Andrew of Somerville, his daughter Ann Madigan of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, his son Stephen and his wife Julie of Rotterdam, NY. He is also survived by 12 loving grandchildren; and siblings Jean OMalley of Hingham, Rev. Edward Keohan of Salem, Dr. John Keohan and his wife Marilyn of Hingham, Peter Keohan and his wife Mary of Weymouth, and is predeceased by his sister, MaryLou Bicknell. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington St., Weymouth Landing, Thursday, July 19 at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours were held Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Burial in Braintree Cemetery.
