Helen Gertrude (Sullivan) Hawthorne, 93 years of age entered Life Eternal at her home in Braintree at Sunrise Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was born in Chelsea and had been a resident of Braintree for 52 years. She was a graduate of Chelsea High School and a Secretarial School. In prior years she had been a secretary for the General Foods Corporation where her late husband, Kenneth Hawthorne, had also been employed. She was a devout Catholic and an active Parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Braintree She had been a volunteer at St. Colettas Day School in Braintree. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Hawthorne who died in 2005. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Duyon of Winthrop. She was the sister of the late Daniel Joseph Sullivan, Mary Toomey and Timothy Francis Sullivan. She is survived by many nieces and nephews including Joan M. MacLennan of Braintree, Daniel Sullivan of Boston, Sarah Osgood Gould of Groton, CT and Zachary Osgood of Michigan. Visiting hours were at the Mortimer N. Peck- Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Wednesday, April 17, from 4 - 7 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Thursday, April 18, at 9:30 a.m. to be followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Braintree Square at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
