Richard P. Gately Sr. Obituary
Richard P. Gately Sr., 81 years of age, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the Royal Braintree Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Braintree. He was born in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston and was raised there. He was a graduate of the English High School in Boston and had taken adult education courses at Braintree High School. Dick lived in Braintree for 44 years and was formerly a Quincy resident. He was a paper cutter for the Courier Paper Company. He retired 12 years ago after 46 years of service with the paper company. He was known as a tireless worker. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Braintree and in younger years had been active with the couples club at St. Agathas Church in Milton. He enjoyed camping, golf, fishing, hockey and woodworking. He was a devoted Bruins Fan. Dick had been an active longtime coach for the Braintree Youth Hockey and the Braintree Little League. He was also an avid reader. Dick was a car mechanic who could fix many things including his Ford Taurus and all of his childrens cars. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (OConnell) Gately; and the devoted father of Janet G. Bean married to Garry Bean of Walpole, Joseph E. Gately married to Maureen Gately of Wickford, R.I., William J. Gately married to Kimberly Gately of Hanson and Richard P. Gately Jr. married to Rhonda Gately of Walpole. He was the loving grandfather of Alexandra, Victoria and Gabrielle Gately all of Hanson and Aidan, Conall, Ronan and Finola Gately all of Wickford, R.I. He was the brother of the late Robert E. Gately. Visiting hours were held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree, Tuesday, July 2, from 4-8 p.m. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., South Braintree Square, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. Burial in St. Marys Cemetery, Randolph. Memorial donations may be sent to the , 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
