Gerald F. Dowd Obituary
Gerald F. Dowd 76, of North Eastham, MA, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home on March 29, 2013. Jerry was born on August 21, 1936 in Worcester, MA to Jeremiah Gerald Dowd and Catherine (Cassidy) Dowd. He was the husband of Barbara (Shaub) Dowd. They were married for more than 50 years. Jerry and Barbara met while attending Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. He graduated from the College in 1958 with a B.A. in History. Jerry served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman from 1959 to 1962, in Korea. After selling life insurance, he worked as a sales executive in advertising and print media for 30 years. Jerry retired to the Cape in 1995. Although he excelled in all athletics, in later years, he most enjoyed a gentleman's game of golf, and was a member of Chequessett Yacht & Golf Club in Wellfleet, MA. Always a gentleman, Jerry was known for his charming smile and gracious manner. He was a beloved husband, an incredible father, and a dear friend. Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara and his five children: Mary Givens and her former husband Scott Givens of East Windsor, CT; Moira Noonan and her husband Stephen of Sandwich, MA; David Dowd and his wife Elizabeth Tsehai of Washington, DC; Margaret ORegan and her husband Robert of Sandwich, MA; and Maureen Dowd and her husband Sean Warecke of Wellfleet, MA. Jerry treasured his nine grandchildren: Siobhan Givens, Scotty (Buddy) Givens, Tristan Givens, Joshua Noonan, Kasey Noonan, Matthew Noonan, Gabriel Dowd, Rafael Dowd, and Joseph ORegan. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Dowd of Shrewsbury, MA. A Mass to celebrate his life will be held on April 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, MA.
