Marguerite (Marny) Louise Leonard, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the age of 97. She was born in York, PA in 1917, but raised in Panama where she graduated from Canal Zone Jr. College in 1936. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Test) Dryden. Marny was the wife of John B. Leonard formerly of Hingham, MA. They met in Panama when Mr. Leonard was working as a news correspondent. They traveled widely for his work, living in Hawaii, New York, Chicago, and Panama. He predeceased her in 1975. Sports was the love of Marnys life. She was an accomplished diver, competing in the Pan American Games. She was also an excellent golf and tennis player. She was an avid walker well into her nineties. Her other hobbies were gourmet cooking and flower arranging. Shortly before her husband died, Marny became interested in spiritual things and committed her life to Jesus. Her new life sustained her during the time of loss after thirty-eight years of marriage. Shortly after that, in 1981, she moved to the Community of Jesus, an ecumenical Benedictine Community, in Orleans, Cape Cod, making her solemn profession in 1985, and where she remained an active member until her death. Through all her later physical adversities she maintained a joyous countenance, and remained a blessing to those who visited with her. Marny is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Harrison of Walnut Creek, California, and Jonna Chewning or Newport, RI. and by five grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration at the Community of Jesus on Wednesday, April 2 at 11 AM.
