Daniel P. Ryan, Sr., 90, of Bridgewater died peacefully on Aug. 15. Dan was the loving son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Foley) Ryan. He grew up in Brighton and was a graduate of Brighton High School, Class of 1942 and joined the Navy after graduation. He proudly served on the USS Canberra in the Pacific Theater. The ship was torpedoed during the Aerial Battle of Taiwan-Okinawa and Dan received a Purple Heart from that attack. Dan and Catherine A. McGranachan were classmates at Brighton High and the two married on Aug. 10, 1946. They lived shortly in Brighton before moving to Bridgewater in 1959. Dan worked for over forty years as a sales manager for Hathaway, Nissen, and later Gold Medal Baking companies. Dan loved to garden, was a Red Sox season ticket holder, but was happiest when he was with his beloved grandchildren. Dan was the loving husband of Catherine A. Ryan of Bridgewater for 67 years and father of Daniel P. Ryan and his wife Joan of Halifax, Paul S. Ryan of Bridgewater, Dennis M. Ryan of Boston, and Cathleen R. Tramonte and her husband Leonard of Bridgewater. Loving Grampy to Kelly, Chris, Wendy, Colleen, Michael, Amanda, Ashley, Patrick, Sean, and Great Grampy to Danny, Ryan, Joseph, Jessie, Maxwell, and Hadley. He was predeceased by five siblings; Josephine, Eileen, Margaret, William, Maurice and he also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater on Wed. Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St. Bridgewater at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
