Diane Marie (Cooney) Aveni, 67, of Bridgewater, formerly of Melrose died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marion (Coan) Cooney. Born in Chelsea, she graduated from Melrose High School. Diane worked as a home health aide prior to her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, going to "Julie's Beach" and spending time with her amazing and beautiful grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Anthony J. Aveni Jr. and his wife Elaine of Bridgewater, Michael T. Aveni and his wife Karen of Kingston, Linda M. Carey and her husband Daniel of East Bridgewater, James D. Aveni of Roysford, Pa., and Julie McPhee and her husband Christopher of Plymouth; her brothers, Thomas P. Cooney Jr., Paul Cooney; her sisters, Joan Cooney, Laura Moore, Karen Cullinan; and 16 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Cooney. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole, and Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 8 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St., Bridgewater. Visiting hours were Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, from 3-6 p.m. in East Bridgewater.
