Elsie L. Ashworth Obituary
Elsie L. (MacLean) Ashworth of East Bridgewater died April 1, 2013, at the age of 74, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Robert C. Ashworth for 55 years. Elsie was the daughter of the late Priscilla (Carr) MacLean and Malcolm MacLean and the daughter-in-law of the late Doris (Nutter) Ashworth. Elsie was born and raised in West Bridgewater where she graduated from high school in 1957. She and her husband raised their family in Brockton where they lived for 36 years before moving to East Bridgewater in 2004. Elsie worked in the Brockton Public Schools for 27 years as a cafeteria worker. After attaining the highest score on a managerial qualification exam, she was promoted to cafeteria manager at North Junior High School until her retirement in 1998. Elsie was a member of the First Church of West Bridgewater where she served as a deacon. She enjoyed camping in the White Mountains, vacationing in Florida, reading, sewing, crafts, and spending time with her beloved dogs. Above all else, Elsie cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family provided her lifes greatest pleasure. In addition to her husband, Elsie is survived by her loving children, Donna M. Craven of Whitman, Robert C. Ashworth Jr. and his wife Laura of Florida, and Brenda L. Farrell and her late husband Stephen of Whitman. She was the sister of Allan MacLean and his late wife Pauline of New Hampshire and Florida, Dorothy Hunter and her husband Russell of New Hampshire, Alta Pratt of West Bridgewater, and the late Douglas MacLean and his wife Janet of New Hampshire. She was the grandmother of Jeremy Craven, Jason Craven and his wife Rachel, and Casey Ashworth. She was the great-grandmother of Makenzie, Jocelyn, Ashley, and Emily. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, at 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, Saturday, April 6, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were Friday 5-8 p.m. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
