Obituary Condolences

John M. de Koning, of Bridgewater, died Jan. 23, 2014 in the Tippett House in Needham at the age of 74, after a period of failing health. John was born in Brockton, son of the late Jan M. de Koning and Velzora S. (Magoun) Sabine and Ernest C. Sabine. Mr. de Koning was raised and educated in Brockton graduated from Brockton High School and attended Franklin Pierce Institute. John was Operations Officer for the M.Sharf and Company in Canton, a wholesale distributor of sporting goods; he was a member of the Army and Air National Guard. John served on the Board of Trustees and the Pastoral Search Committee at Central Square Congregational Church in Bridgewater where he was a long-time member. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying trips to Marco Island, Florida for tarpon fishing as well as fishing local and Cape Cod lakes and ponds. John was also a member of the American Model Association and made and flew radio-controlled planes. Loving husband of Bette L. de Koning of Bridgewater. Devoted father of Susan E. Sobolewski and husband Gregory W, of Mashpee, Jeanne L. Fitzgibbon and husband Sean of Newton and Jennifer L. Mangelson and husband Nathan of Bridgewater. John is also survived by 8 grandchildren and by his brother, Ernest Sabine of Arlington, his sister Velzora Singewald of Yreka, CA. and a cousin, Jeannette Smit of Alkmaar, Holland.
