John R. Menton Sr., age 54, of Brockton, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. John was born and raised in Brockton; a son of A. Lorraine (Sawyer)(Menton)Murphy of Naples, Fla. and the late William J. Menton. He was a member of Brockton High School class of 1976. He had lived in West Bridgewater for 25 years before returning Brockton eight years ago. John had been a crane operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 in Boston. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, golf and dogs. John will be remembered as a man with a huge open heart and an incredible sense of humor. His true joy in life was his family, especially time spent with his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his five children Melissa R.Menton and her husband Jason Carnes of Middleboro; John R. Menton Jr. and his wife Lisa Stuart of West Bridgewater; Kristin M.Menton of Brooklyn, NY; Tara A. and Thomas R. Menton both of West Bridgewater. He was the devoted grandfather of Julia Rose, Alison and Natalie. The brother of Kathy Weidenfeller and her husband John of Naples, FL; William Menton and his wife Susan of Bridgewater; Michael Menton and his wife Meredith of Southington, CT; Suzanne Horton of Raynham; James Menton and wife Jeanne of West Bridgewater and Julie Hedges and her husband Roger of Naples, Fla. He also leaves his beloved fiance Nancy Pearson of Brockton, many nieces and nephews and the mother of his children Valerie Messina of West Bridgewater. Visiting hours were held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123), Brockton on Monday, Nov. 12, from 3 - 7 p.m. The funeral procession gathered at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, West Bridgewater at 10 a.m. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
