Rita D. (Haefner) Happnie, 82 of East Bridgewater died Feb. 12, 2013, at her home. She was born in Quincy, daughter of the late Carl and Helen (Hickey) Haefner and was raised and educated there. She was a 1949 graduate of Quincy High School. Rita was full of love and life, she enjoyed bowling at the old Viking Bowladrome, playing bingo, traveling to Foxwoods, and cheering on the Red Sox especially her beloved Big Papi. Most near and dear to her was spending time with her children and their families. She was the mother of John C. and Janet Happnie of Whitman, Joseph M. and Toni Happnie of Rockland, Beverly A. and George Coleman of Whitman, Michael J. Happnie of Rockland, Kathleen and Donald Stetler of East Bridgewater, James B. and Karen Happnie of Rockland, Laurie A. and Robert Siders of Hanson and the late Linda Genereux. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Richard, Bernard and Joseph Haefner, and her sisters, Marie DiBona, Helen Leaman and Theresa Walden. A celebration of her life was held Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., in Rockland. A funeral service was celebrated Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Kristy Coburn officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
