Robert Crosby, 71, of Bridgewater died on Oct. 16. He was the husband of Lillian M. (Costa) Crosby of Bridgewater and long time companion of the late Alberta Brazil. Bob was the son of the late Walter C. and Selma V. Crosby and was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater. Bob began working at an early age and was a longtime builder of homes in the Bridgewater area. He was the former owner and operator of Crosby Trucking of Bridgewater. As a past member of the Wheels of Time, Robert loved antique cars and attending car shows; even building his own 1934 Ford. He was called to serve his country in the US Army during Vietnam, and enjoyed many of the places that he traveled to while serving. During this time he also developed an interest in helicopters and would always love helicopter tour rides while on vacation. He was awarded several medals for his service including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Combat Medal and two Army Commendation Medals. Survivors include his wife Lillian M. Crosby of Bridgewater; his step children Denise M. Langley and her husband Peter of Wareham and William J. Rogers of Dighton. Papa Bob to Ella Jean and Jackson, Godfather to Shane Hennessy of Carver and the late Jennifer Zomac. Brother to Nancy and her husband Donald ORourke of West Bridgewater, Kathryn and her husband Lyle Lucier of New Hampshire, Irene Crosby of Carver, and the late Walter and his wife Gerel Crosby of Lakeville, and the late William and Russell Crosby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral was from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole, and Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St.,(Rt. 18) Bridgewater on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St., Bridgewater at 10 a.m. Burial St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
