Obituary Condolences

Roger L. "Bucky" Buckland, 79, of East Bridgewater, died Sept. 20, after a short period of failing health. He was a caring husband to Kathleen (Feeney) Buckland for 58 years. He was born in Boston, Feb. 6, 1934, son of Stella (Wilson) Buckland, and her husband, Leverett N. Buckland. Roger attended schools in Stoughton and Brockton. After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, Roger was employed for thirty years by the Carver Cotton Gin Co. of East Bridgewater, the Merry Macs restaurant of S. Easton, and served as an East Bridgewater Fire Lieutenant before his forced medical retirement in 1983. He owned a used appliance business for many years and was an avid recycler since his childhood. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91 of East Bridgewater, and until recently, he and Kathleen were active participants in the USS Lewis Hancock DD-675 shipmate reunions. In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by a sister, Virginia Hollis of Bridgewater; children, Edward Buckland and partner Ms. Jan Boyden of Abington, Susan Naujunas and husband Charles of Middleboro, Peggy Hubbard and husband Rondo of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy Buckland of East Bridgewater; and five grandchildren, Evangelyn and Alanna Buckland, Matthew and Timothy Naujunas, and Raymond Hubbard. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and his sister, Doris Lonergan Thomas. In keeping with Rogers last wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne. Gifts may be made to Greyhound Pets of America, Massachusetts, P.O.
