Veronica M. Shimkus (Svagzdys) of Bridgewater died peacefully at home on April 12, 2014 surrounded by loving family at the age of 93. Veronica was born in Brockton, the daughter of the late Joseph M. Svagzdys of Lithuania and Tekla A. Svagzdys (Rynshall) of Patterson, New Jersey. Veronica was raised and educated in Brockton. She was a past member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Club and a long time member of the Scotland Women's Club. She was also very active in the family business, Bridgewater Farm Supply Co. Inc. that she and her husband started in the 1950's. Veronica was the wife of the late Joseph P. Shimkus and the beloved mother of Peter J. Shimkus and his wife Linda of Bridgewater, John D. Shimkus and the late Paula J. Shimkus of Lakeville, Carolyn R. Shimkus and companion William Bahr of Florida, Clare Janak and husband Michael of Carver, Joseph M. Shimkus and companion Linda Melchionne of Bridgewater, Stephen P. Shimkus and wife Beverly of Dighton, Rita S. Tamulevich and husband David of Bridgewater, Veronica M. Ellis and husband Ricky of Bridgewater, Paul D. Shimkus of Carver, Christopher A. Shimkus and fianc Lisa Bedard of Wareham, and the late Anthony Shimkus. Veronica was sister to Ann Appleton of Kingston, John J. Svagzdys, Esq. and his wife Jean of Hingham, Bernadette Gudas of Rhode Island, Eleana Shemeta of Washington, Elizabeth Boland and her husband Thomas of Norwell. Veronica is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
