Beatrice Rachel Roth Zimmet of Brookline and New York City, died peacefully April 16, 2014 at Hebrew Senior Life, Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham MA. She was 95. She is survived by her children, Suzannah and Marya Zimmet and by her grandchildren, Ari Raphael and Ava Lily, as well as by her brother, Joel Roth and sister, Jean Mandel. Beatrice, known as "Bici", beloved by all, was born in Northampton, Pennsylvania on January 30, 1919 to Isidore and Lillian (Weiss) Roth, the eldest of their 7 children. She moved to New York to pursue a career in theatre , television and film. She studied with Stella Adler and became a member of the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg. In her later years she wrote and performed her own one woman creations and received numerous grants and awards. Ms. Roth, a person of unusual radiance and creative genius in her lifelong work as actress, painter, writer, travelled all over the world with The Wooster Group of New York City in their avant guard production of The Three Sisters,"Brace Up" in which she played the ingenue, Irina thru to the age of 84. She is predeceased by her sisters: Mildred Hirsch, Henrietta Meltzer, Sally Lerman and her brother: Melvin Roth as well as by her her former husband, Jay Zimmet. Instrumental in the upbringing of her grandchildren, she is remembered for her tender devotion, poetic sensibility and playful imagination. She was a well-known figure in the neighborhood, seen walking endlessly up and down the paths of Brookline Beatrice was a woman of extraordinary gentleness, grace and creativity. She adored nature and beauty and treated all sentient beings with love and respect As we miss her dearly, we strive to honor her life and spirit thru acts of loving kindness and Tikun Olam (healing the world) Her soul continues on, bound up into eternity. Interment was at Agudas Achim Cemetery in Pennsylvania, close to the graves of her mother and father. The family is sitting Shiva in Brookline.
