David England Obituary

David E. England (1942-2018), former resident of Brookline, died on June 3, 2018, in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, while volunteering as a campground host. Born in Dothan, AL September 6. 1942, he attended Alamogordo (NM) High School (class of 1960) and the University of New Mexico where he received both a B.A. and J.D. He worked as a journalist at the Christian Science Monitor, in book publishing, as financial advisor with Waddell and Reed, as an independent tax agent, and served on the Brookline Preservation Commission. He was a member of Common Cause, the Green Party, and the Christian Church, Scientist. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed building and rowing small boats. In 2002, he began volunteering for the National Park Service, serving in many parks across the country, and finally making Big Bend National Park in TX his home. His former wife, M.K. Merelice predeceased him in 2017. He leaves a brother, John of Albuquerque, NM. No ceremony is planned, his ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony. David and I served on the Brookline Preservation Commission together. He was a kind and intelligent man and I am sorry to read about his passing. My sincerest sympathy to his relatives.
