Dorothy (Cohen) Sargon of Brookline died suddenly on March 8, 2011. She was 94. Dorothy Sargon was born in East Boston and graduated from the Beth Israel School of Nursing. Within 6 months following her graduation she became the head nurse on the a male surgical unit at the Beth Israel Hospital. Mrs. Sargon, who was known as Dotty, was the loving wife of the late Joseph Isaac Sargon. She was the devoted mother of Rosalind Sargon of Brookline, Marilyn and Michael Brier of Westwood, Dinah Gilburd of Boston, Joyce and Dr. Gerald Udler of Newton, and the late Edward Sargon. She was the beloved grandmother of Dorothy and Jonathan Cohen; Henry Brier; Jody Brier and Emily McCue; Katy and Zoltan Szabo; Jamie and Dr. Bruce Kopan; Rebecca and Dr. Andrew Feingold; Dr. Miriam Udler; and Joseph and Marissa Gilburd; and the cherished grandmother of eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Sargon was the nurse at Camp Litchaven for several summers and was affectionately known as "Aunt Dottie." Campers would line up at the camp infirmary seeking her 'tender loving care" to soothe their aches and pains. After raising her five children she assisted in a private medical practice in Brookline. Mrs. Sargon was an avid reader and a talented artist. Her artwork was displayed yearly at the Senior Center. She was constantly sought out by people of all ages for her advice and wisdom. With compassion and generosity she reached out to others and touched many lives. Mrs. Sargon will be greatly missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepard, 2042 Beacon Street, Newton, MA 02468-1431.
