Jason G. Handy Obituary
Jason G. Handy, a resident of Brookline, MA, formerly of Winchester, died unexpectedly on September 29th at age 67. He was the son of the late Gardner and Margaret Handy of Cummaquid, MA and loving brother of the late Jonathan Handy of Springdale, WA. Jason graduated from Winchester High School in 1962 and Boston University in 1970. Prior to attending college, he joined the US Navy as a Communications Specialist aboard the USS Oxford during the early years of the Vietnam War. Jason, an enthusiast of words and language, retired several years ago from a long career of writing, proofreading, and editing, including 27 years at Ropes & Gray in Boston. He enjoyed following both professional and college sports, browsing through his substantial library of dictionaries, thesauri and magazine clippings, debating politics with his friends at Starbucks, and more recently, riding his motorcycle on country roads. Jason was a fan of the changeable New England weather and enjoyed nothing better than chasing lightning storms. He was a kind and generous man and loved all animals, especially cats. Jason is survived by his adoring family, "niece o' mine" Jessica Handy of Santa Monica, CA; nephew Evan Handy, niece-in-law Kathleen Duffy, and great niece Louisa of Washington, DC; sister-in-law Francine Handy of Kennewick, WA; and many new and long-time friends who will all greatly miss his enormous charm, warmth and quirky personality. A memorial service will be held for Jason Handy on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 2:00PM at Winchester Unitarian Society, 478 Main Street, Winchester, MA. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
