Obituary Condolences

John VanDeCarr, a lifelong public servant, died on February 22, 2010 at age 72. He was born in Rochester, earned a degree at Northeastern University, and settled with his wife Marian in Brookline, where they raised four children. He worked most of his life serving people in needas activities director at an Allston nursing home, a counselor and later volunteer coordinator at the Pine Street Inn, and finally working with developmentally disabled young adults and delivering meals on wheels. In all his work, he sought to affirm the dignity of all people. He was active in Unitarian-Universalist Churches in Brookline and Watertown. He and Marian retired to Pittsburgh in 2007, near their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, children David, Elizabeth, Paul, and Dorothy, and his grandchildren.
