John W. Jack Hornfeldt Jr., 77, of Brookline, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, after a long valiant struggle with Alzheimers Disease. He was the dear beloved husband of Susan Etscovitz-Hornfeldt. John was the son of the late John and Katherine (Cottrell) Hornfeldt. He was raised in Ridgewood, N.J. He graduated from Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio, and Princeton Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Theology. Jack was a minister and served as a chaplain at Boston University. He was also a community organizer, social worker, CIO and served as an adjunct faculty member at Suffolk University. John is survived by his loving children, Eric Hornfeldt, Susan Olson, Karl Hornfeldt, Joanne Hornfeldt and Benjamin Etscovitz. He was the father-in-law of Jessica Hornfeldt, Sean Olson, Debra Hornfeldt, Jill Bonter and Alexandra Etscovitz; and cherished grandfather of Caleb and Valerie Dovel, Rikki Hornfeldt, Tess, Madeline and Max Olson, Kayla and Jacob Hornfeldt and Bella Etscovitz. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gifts in his memory may be made to the of Watertown, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
