Joseph Jurich Obituary
Joseph Jurich, born in Chicago, Illinois on December 14, 1926, most beloved and devoted friend and father of Joscelyn Jurich and most cherished husband of Marilyn Jurich. Caring and beloved brother of Ann Johannes of Tinley Park, Illinois and Evelyn May of Mokena, Illinois and dear uncle of Roy Johannes, Cindy Johannes, the late Karen Johannes and Joanne Rock, Jenny May, Christine Glatz and Michelle Fowler. Son of the late Jenny Ivisich and the late Joseph Jurich, both of Chicago, Illinois. Joseph was a graduate of Lindblom High School, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He taught writing and literature at the University of Florida, Washburn University, the University of Arizona, Boston University, Boston State College, Bunker Hill Community College and Framingham State University, where he retired as Professor of English. In recent years, he was an elected Member of the Brookline Town Meeting. Profound teacher, humanist and humanitarian, deeply generous, always compassionate and curious, nurturing and inspiring friend, father and husband - you are in our hearts always. You taught us that literature and art are forms of beauty as well as means to social and political change; you encouraged us to greet the beauty of each day in this world. Because of you, we are all more enlightened, more hopeful, more openhearted. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Josephs name to the American Humanist Association, the United Farm Workers, Spare Change News/the Homeless Empowerment Project and the Nation Institute. Memorial service to be held Sunday, July 24th.
