Johnson, M. Claradine, resident of Rivercrest in Concord and formerly from Wichita and Lawrence, Kansas, passed away November 14, 2013, in Concord, Massachusetts. Born September 18, 1922, in Springfield, Missouri, she earned a BS from Bowling Green State University, a MA in education from Wichita State University, and a PhD in education and administration from the University of Kansas. Over the course of her career, she taught all ages and served as a counselor, vice principal, principal, professor, and Wichita school board member. Dr. Johnson was the first female public high school principal in Kansas and in 1970, founded the Metropolitan Secondary Program Center, an alternative high school. The M. Claradine Johnson Award is bestowed annually by AdvancEd Kansas to educators who exhibit excellence in school leadership and improvement. Dr. Johnson was married to Warren C. Johnson until his death in 1980. She is survived by her daughter, Karla, and her family Stewart, Megan, and Hannah Roberts of Carlisle; and son Keith and his family, Reisa Sperling, Aubrey, and Lyra Johnson of Brookline, MA. Her second husband, Dale Allen passed away two years ago. Dr. Johnson was a tireless advocate for disadvantaged students and education excellence. A scholarship in her name has been established at Wichita State University to honor her contributions to the Wichita community. Funeral services are private. Arrangements under the care of Glenn D.
