Obituary Condolences

Richard C. "Dick" Brigham, Jr. of Brookline, formerly of Fall River, passed away on September 19, 2014 at age 89. Born on March 20, 1925, Son of the late Richard Brigham, Sr. and Florence (Cook) Brigham. Loving husband of Dana (Hamlin) Brigham, dear and devoted father of Amy Brigham of Cambridge, MA, Anna Brigham of Marstons Mills, MA, Benjamin Brigham and his wife Hiromi Brigham of Los Angeles, CA and Laura (Brigham) Elliott and her husband Sean Elliott of Great Barrington, MA. He was much loved by his grandchildren, Marina, Tristan, Octavio, Emeline, Noah and Kai. Brother of Barbara (Brigham) Posey of Framingham, MA and the late Constance (Brigham) Schreiber of Kingston, NH. Also survived by former wife Joan (Carroll) Brigham of Cambridge, MA. Dick was raised in Fall River and entered the Army Air Corp in 1943, serving in WWII. He went on to study architecture at Cornell and Harvard Universities, and was awarded The Rotch Scholarship, providing him the opportunity to tour Europe and study architecture, which he did by motorcycle. While there he took extensive photographs documenting post-war Europe. He had a long, distinguished career as an architect in New England. He was fond of the sea and the air, flying glider planes and sauntering along the shore in search of the perfect rock. He designed and built a house in Menemsha, MA in 1958 which was enjoyed by his children and grandchildren for many summers. He was loved dearly by his family and friends, and will be remembered for his kindness, never ending patience, love of anything chocolate, sense of humor and captivating stories. Memorial service details, to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations in Dick's honor can be made to The Fall River Historical Society, 451 Rock Street, Fall River, MA 02720 or the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675. Arrangements by BELL-O'DEA FUNERAL HOME; 376 Washington Street; Brookline, MA 02445; 617-277-7652.
