Ruth M. Williams Obituary
Ruth Margaret Williams, 1931-2015, of Arlington MA. Loving daughter of Herbert and Kathleen Williams of Canterbury, England and sister of Ian F. Williams, and aunt of Peter Williams, both of Upton, England. Predeceased by her brother Bob Williams. Following WW II Ruth emigrated to Boston as a Fulbright Scholar, rare for her time. She went on to receive her MA and Ph.D. at Boston University. At The Park School in Brookline she taught lower school until she was appointed permanent Fourth Grade Teacher and Division Head of the Middle School. She was beloved by students and parents and fellow teachers for her chipper manner, ready wit, and brilliant, surprising teaching styles. When told recently that Park School was adopting "Differentiated Learning," 'Ruth said, "Oh good heavens, we've been doing that for a hundred years." At age 84, Ruth died peacefully on July 11, surrounded and supported by Park School faculty, particularly Marianne Miller, David Lawton, Lucy Robb, Phil Gambone, Alice Lucey, Ana Patricia Montoya, Betsy Ball, Bob and Nancy Hurlbut, and her dear friends Ann Flentje and Winn Barnard. A service in her memory will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church at 74 Pleasant Street, Arlington MA. Wednesday July 22, 2015, at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers please send contributions and notes to "The Ruth Williams Fund for Tuition Assistance" at The Park School, 171 Goddard Ave., Brookline, MA 02445.
