Sylvia Brown Obituary
Sylvia Brown, formerly of 10 Norman Street, Salem, and Swampscott, passed away on August 12th, 2017, at Hebrew Senior Life in Roslindale, MA. She leaves her daughters Linda Sapol of Brookline, and Phyllis Hxell and her husband Hannu Tjader of Sodertalje, Sweden. She was the cherished grandmother of Anders Michel Nord, also of Sweden. Sylvia was a dedicated community member, and was passionate about politics. She would write letters to local, state, and national politicians, and commiserate with like-minded editorial letter writers in the Salem News. She was so proud of the handwritten responses she often received. Sylvia had a soft spot in her heart for the weak and defenseless, especially after her daughter Phyllis adopted a baby from Haiti. She reached out to Haitians in the Boston area, and contributed time and financial support to numerous organizations. An avid bridge player, she was also a dedicated member of Temple Beth El, Bnai Brith Women, and the Magen David Adom of Israel. Donations in Sylvias memory may be made by visiting www.hebrewseniorlife.org/ tribute. For more information or to view the online guest book, please visit www.stanetskyhymansonsalem.com.
