Samuel Shaw Obituary

Samuel P. Shaw, Sr., age 94, of Cambridge and Wareham, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge. Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Groton School, Harvard College '39, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In early 1942, he joined the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific where he survived landings on Saipan, Tinian, Tarawa, and Okinawa. After the war, he returned to Boston briefly to practice law. By 1950, he had moved to New York where he practiced at various firms, including Shaw, Bernstein, Scheuer, Boyden & Sarnoff. For some years, he served as general counsel for Gull Airborne and Microdot, both in Connecticut. Later he moved to Millbrook, N.Y., opening a private law office in nearby Millerton. On his retirement, he returned to his summer place in Wareham, where he spent most of the remainder of his life. In his last few years, he resided at Youville House in Cambridge. He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. W. F. Mittendorf, Mrs. G. B. Blake, Mrs. J. Coburn and Mrs. G.L. Crittenden. A brother, Howard Stockton Shaw, predeceased him. His second wife, Elizabeth Roberts Shaw died in 2003. He is also survived by his daughter Jane, his son, S. Parkman, Jr., and his grandson, S. Parkman 3rd. A second son, Charles Storey Shaw died in 1970. Other survivors include his stepdaughters, Christopher Anne Affleck and Linda Boldt, and their children Ben, Casey and Jason. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Church of Our Saviour, 25 Monmouth St., Brookline, MA.
