Barbara Tyng Obituary

ORLEANS - Barbara "Bobbie" Carnright Tyng passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Thursday, August 31, 2017 due to complications from severe pneumonia. She was 68 years old.
Born in Kingston, NY, Bobbie and her two siblings were raised in Saugerties, NY by her parents Robert and Ginny Carnright. She attended high school at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA and eventually matriculated at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH. Ultimately, Bobbie received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College in Boston.
Bobbie was a founding partner of The Learning Garden Preschool in Orleans, MA where she was the Co-Director and Lead Preschool Teacher for 31 years. During her decades at The Learning Garden, Bobbie had a lasting impact on the children she taught and the families within the community. Her passion for children and teaching never waned - even after retirement, Bobbie devoted her time to substitute teaching and volunteering in local schools. She was especially proud of her volunteer work with the Treasure Cay Preschool program in the Bahamas, where she was fondly referred to as "Miss Bobbie" by the Headmaster and children alike.
Bobbie is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Steve Tyng, and her two adoring daughters, Heidi Piché of Weston, MA and Holley Tyng of Falmouth, ME, along with their respective spouses, Casey Piché and Kristin Cirbus. Beloved "Mimi" to her grandchildren Hannah and Tyler Piché, they loved her deeply and were a boundless source of pure, unadulterated joy in her life. Bobbie is also survived by her siblings, brother Holley Carnright (Denise Dourdeville) and sister Patricia Keefe, and many nieces and nephews.
Bobbie is remembered for her indomitable spirit, her generous nature, and her tender approach. Universally known for her grace, kindness and infectious smile, she was a beautiful and vibrant person who seemingly radiated from the sunshine she held inside. Abundant with energy and selfless with her time, Bobbie served as an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to meet her. Fostered by her deep love of Cape Cod, she was a fixture on Nauset Beach and was known to enjoy a swim in the Atlantic regardless of the season. It was on this beach that she regularly reconnected with the children she once taught. The happy shouts down the shore for "Mrs. Tyng" never ceased and were a constant source of happiness for her. Bobbie never forgot a name or a face of one of her students. When she wasn't on the beach, she loved to spend her free time playing tennis with friends around the Cape. In recent years, she and Steve traveled frequently to their home in Treasure Cay, where Bobbie again was an active member of the community, enjoying tennis, swimming, and volunteering her time. Bobbie loved to walk on the beach and search for seashells or washed up beach glass. But, of all the things Bobbie loved in life, her family was her greatest love of all. She was fiercely devoted to her family and cherished every moment they had together.
A memorial visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, MA from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, September 12th. A celebration of Bobbie's life will be held at the The Brewster Baptist Church in Brewster, MA at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 13th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Treasure Cay Preschool in the Bahamas by visiting www.youcaring.com/treasurecaypreschool-938308.

Dear Steve, Heidi, and Holley,
It doesn't seem possible that such a vibrant lifeforce that was your mom could be gone. Though I had known her a bit through my youth, I will always be grateful for the hugs she extended to my twin boys when they were small and mischievous. Whenever I would run into her on the beach or in town, she always stopped to chat and loved catching up with her former students. And even after she had retired, I felt lucky when she would substitute in my classroom-she was a real pro who just cared about the kids. We are all so sorry for your family's loss, and are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Much love,

Dear Steve & family, our hearts are grieving for you in learning of Bobbie's passing into her eternal life. We are grateful for her friendship, gracious hospitality & wit; in the visits to Treasure Cay. Her zest for life and concern to help others, exemplifies; its not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived. Her beautiful shining spirit will live in the memories of her in our hearts.
