I was so very, very sad to hear of Fred's passing. Much of my childhood was spent with Polly and the rest of the Barstow family in Concord and as a frequent guest at their house in Jackson. Fred taught me to ski, something I will always be grateful for. A quiet, kind and gentle soul with a winning smile. There was nothing he couldn't build or do and I was in awe of his athleticism. So many fond memories. I truly thought of him as a second father. My heart and thoughts go out to Doffie, Polly, Brew, David and Chris, their spouses and his grandchildren.

Dear Barstow family, I so wish I could have been a part of Fred's celebration at village on this past Saturday, however I had already made arrangements to be away on a women's church retreat. I want you to know how much Fred meant to me, he was always so loving, considerate and had lots of integrity. I will forever remember talking with him and him coming to get candy from my desk every day after lunch. Great, great man! Love Lisa Gove.

Sorry to hear of this Doffie. I enjoyed many short conversations with Fred, Doffie, and Toby on their daily walks around the neighborhood. Our dog would often walk into your yard looking for Toby. I also enjoyed riding on Pleasant Hill road one day with Fred. Please take care!

Doffie - Sorry to hear about Fred's death. I enjoyed speaking with Fred during our MWBC cycling events as he was very interested in how Dani (Dartmouth 15')
was doing.

Doffie, I am so sorry to hear this news. I knew you both through the club but got to know Fred better the last two years he rode. We rode together most of that time. His wonderful can do attitude was an inspiration to me. I will remember both you and him as long as I live.

Our deepest sorrow for Doffie and sons Brewer, David, Chris, daughter Polly and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. A year older, Fred was a true big brother. He took me for my first day of school; through his assurances, I no longer feared boating; and he taught me the Alberg technique he learned from a small booklet published by the Northland Ski Company. Growing up in Massena he enjoyed boat building, hunting, carving his own set of duck decoys and enjoyed the Stillwater Hunting Club. He was instrumental in the formation of the first ski team at Massena High School. He will be missed for sure.

Doffie--I'm so sorry to hear of Fred's death. Although it's been many years since I've seen you and Fred, I have fond memories of the old Masters racing crew. I can picture Fred in his red warm-ups and blue CB jacket, riding the lift at Wildcat. He was a terrific skier, and always a tough competitor, especially in Giant Slalom!
I'm glad that he lived a long and full life, with loving family.
