Mrs. Ruth Alice (Crooker) Vantine 86, of Middleton, beloved wife of the late Richard Vantine died peacefully October 24, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Marston Salsbury and Harriet Evelyn (Belyea) Crooker. She lived in Massachusetts her entire life, with the last 50 years residing in Middleton. She was a prolific visual artist, specializing in oil portraits and the neo-impressionistic style. She was a member of the Middleton Arts Association for many years, teaching art lessons and exhibiting in town and the surrounding area. She was also a member of the Rockport Art Association and frequented trips to Rockport to paint the local scenery and people. Most notable is her painting of the Flint Public Library (currently displayed at the library) and a triptych portraying well-known landmarks of the Town of Middleton (currently displayed at the Town Hall). She was a member of Middleton Congregational Church for 41 years and served on the Board of Trustees in the 1970s. She sang in local choirs including the Middleton Congregational Church Choir and the Merrimack Valley Choral Society. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano and gardening, and loved her family very much. Ruth is survived by her children Steven Lush of North Andover, Heidi Sawyer of Middleton, Skip Lush of Deerfield Beach, FL and Peter Vantine of Middleton, as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Jeffery Lush. ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral services were privately held at her family gravesite in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Peterson-ODonnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62), Danvers.
