George A. Rogers Jr. Obituary
George A. Rogers, Jr., age 90, formerly of Braintree, died peacefully, Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation at Eagle Pond in Dennis. The Rogers family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff on Hewins Unit at the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation facility. He was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Dorchester schools and has lived in Dennis for over one year, previously in Braintree for over sixty years. George was employed as a corrections officer at the Norfolk Prison and has been retired many years. He also worked as a carpenter and was Jack of all trades for many years. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He participated in the Normandy invasion, campaigns in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. George enjoyed the beach and especially walking along Nantasket Beach. He was well known for his sense of humor and his generosity to others. Beloved husband of the late Madaline A. (ONeil) Rogers. Devoted father of William G. Rogers of West Dennis, Susan R. Smith and her husband Russell of Cohasset, Steven G. Rogers and his wife Joanne of Londonderry, NH. Also survived by four grandchildren. Brother of Loretta Kane of Fredericksburg, VA, the late Rita Honan and the late Mary Hudson. Funeral Services were conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Friday, March 1st at 11:30 a.m. Visiting were prior to the service from 10:30 | 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
