Mary Alice Norrine Freund Brown, a resident of Ipswich for 45 years, died peacefully on July 16, surrounded by her family at Masconomet Health Center in Topsfield. Born in Chicago on March 2, 1926, Norrine was the only child of William Freund and Martha Poirier Freund. She grew up in Boston and attended Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro, graduated from Brookline High School where she was captain of the swim team, received A.S. degree in Nursing from Northern Essex Community College, and also attended Boston College and Salem State College part-time. She married Pierce J. Brown in Boston in 1946 and together they had eight children whom they raised in Brighton and in Ipswich. Norrine worked as a realtor before becoming an R.N. at the age of 52. She worked as a nurse at Beverly Hospital and a psychiatric nurse at Lynn Union Hospital. In addition, she gave her time as a volunteer to numerous organizations and projects. Most recently, she volunteered at the Doyon School Library in Ipswich and in her parish, Our Lady of Hope, Ipswich, where she was an active member. She also loved to travel, having been to France, England, Scotland, Italy and Japan and was also an avid reader. The greatest joy in her life, however, was spending time with her family, which included 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is survived by Philip and Brenda Brown of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Susan and Brooks Stoddard of Brunswick, Maine, Karen and Robert Geggel of Dover, Mass., David Brown and Maureen Woodward of Ipswich, Stephen and Tracy Brown of Ipswich, Nancy Higgins and James Sholomith of Ipswich and a son-in-law, Nori Ichizawa of Rowley. She was pre-deceased by her husband, and two daughters, Christine Brown and Elizabeth Ichizawa.
