Richard Billings Obituary

Richard Watson Billings, a local banking executive and former board chairman of Crozer-Keystone Health System, died on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at his home in Springton Lake Village, Media, PA. He was 86. Mr. Billings retired in 1989 as executive vice president and director of Fidelity Bank and Fidelcorp, which is now part of Wells Fargo. Earlier in his career, he served as president, chairman and chief executive officer of Southeast National Bank, which merged with Fidelity Bank in 1984. Mr. Billings was named to the Crozer board in 1980 and served as chairman during Crozers merger with Delaware County Memorial Hospital, a partnership that created Crozer-Keystone Health System in 1989. He served as chairman of the CKHS board from 1994 to 1998. A graduate of the Hill School, Yale University and Rutgers Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Mr. Billings was a longtime resident of Berwyn before moving to Springton Lake Village. He also served on the boards of the RDC Institute, where he was chairman, Peoples Light & Theater Company and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Mr. Billings, who was born in Salt Lake City, served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Billings is survived by his wife, Patty, four children (including Richard W. Billings of Dover, and David H. Billings of Dover) and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
