Audrey B. Radtke, long time resident of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. and North Eastham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born on May 9, 1922 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Arthur and Rose (Weston) Buehler. She grew up on Long Island, N.Y. and graduated from Adelphi University - Mills College of Education in New York City. She moved at the age of 21 to Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. to teach at the private, progressive Hessian Hills School. A year later on March 2, 1944, she married her kindred spirit and fellow adventurer Robert B. Radtke. Audrey and Robert built a home in Croton in 1950 where they raised their three children. She taught Special Education at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School in Hawthorne, N.Y. during the 1960s | 1970s and retired in June, 1979. In addition to her teaching career and caring for her family, Audrey had many interests and talents. She was an ardent reader and enthusiastically shared her love of reading along with her vast collection of books with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, music and playing the piano, the arts and drawing, researching history and genealogy, knitting, sewing and home decorating. Audrey relished entertaining family and friends, adults and children alike; she loved having a full house and her door was always open. Gatherings at Audreys dinner table always included lively discussions on a wide variety of topics, usually including politics and current events. Audrey also loved animals, the outdoors and nature; her love of the sea and all forms of wildlife were lifelong passions. She was active in and supported numerous nature conservancy and animal protection groups and causes. She was a member of the Croton Yacht Club in N.Y. and the Orleans Yacht Club in MA for many years. Above all else, Audrey cherished her family and loved the times spent with them, especially the many happy summers they enjoyed together at their home on Cape Cod Bay. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Audrey is survived by her children, Nancy Radtke (Jack Gallagher), Jane (Anthony) Stefano, Arthur (Lisa) Radtke, her much adored grandchildren Derek and Corina Radtke and several nieces and nephews.
