Joan Lee Cook Normandy, 80, died peacefully at her home in Eastham, Mass., on Saturday, April 20, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, following a brave battle with cancer. Joan was born in Meriden, Conn., on August 8, 1932, the daughter of the late Paul J. Cook, Sr. and Margaret Wass Cook. She was educated at St. Rose School and graduated with Meriden High School class of 1949. Joan was a secretary for the Meriden Police Department early in her marriage, and after raising five children, she worked for the Meriden Board of Education. Upon their retirements in 1991, she and her husband relocated to Cape Cod, where she was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church and was actively involved with the Eastham Public Library. An avid reader, she leaves a legacy for her love of books and a selfless, untiring devotion to her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Armand L. Normandy, Jr., a retired employee of Connecticut Light & Power. Both have long-time affiliations with several Cape antique car clubs. Their children include Thomas M. Normandy and wife Monique of Newington; Kathryn A. Normandy-Wnuk of East Berlin; Michael P. Normandy and partner Robert Castagnoli of New York City; Chris S. Normandy of Haddam; and Lisa M. Normandy Davis and husband Ted of Cheshire. She is also survived by six grandchildren--Jennifer Huston, Derek Wnuk, Rachel Normandy, Michelle Wnuk, Kaylee Normandy and Chloe Davis; two great-grandchildren--Cameron and Coral Huston; her identical twin sister, Jeanne Cook Allen of Maryland; her brother, U.S. Congressman and retired Marine Colonel Paul J. Cook, Jr. of California; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours for family and friends were held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, Conn. An additional hour of visitation will occur on Wednesday, April 24 at 10 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
