Shirley (Shropshire) Norcross passed away on April 27 at Cape Cod Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Clarence E. Norcross for over 66 years. Shirley was born in Pawtucket, RI to Edward and Beatrice (Steele) Shropshire. She grew up in Millis, MA, graduating from Millis High School in 1943. She worked briefly at Ruberoid Co. before attending Rhode Island State College in Kingston, RI. During World War II, from 1944 to 1946, she worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in Washington, DC. Married in 1947, she and her husband moved to Cape Cod in 1949, residing first in South Harwich and then for 45 years in South Chatham, before moving back to South Harwich in 2000. She was the secretary of C.E. Norcross and Son Construction for 53 years. Shirley was active in the Harwich Junior Womens Club and the Evening Division of the Harwich Womens Club. Grandchildren, gardening, baking, and golf were her interests. She loved spending time with family and friends. Besides her husband, survivors include her son, Howard G. Norcross and daughter-in-law, Bethel of South Chatham; granddaughter, Sarah Norcross of Arlington, VA; grandson, James Norcross of South Chatham; brother, Edward Shropshire and his wife Joan of Millis; niece Deborah Bennet of South Hamilton, MA; and nephew, Paul Shropshire of Lantana, FL. A funeral service will be held at Morris, OConnor & Blute Funeral Home in Harwich Center at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 3. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in East Harwich.
