William Morrow Jr.

1942 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
William Morrow Jr., 71, of East Orleans, passed into Glory on Good Friday, April 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in New Britain, CT, the son of the late William Morrow Sr. and Violet (Duncan). From a young age Bill's keen analytical mind had an affinity for numbers. As young man, Bill served proudly in the US Army reserves during the Vietnam era. In June of 1965, two days after graduating from Quinnipiac College with a degree in accounting, Bill's civil service career began as an auditor with the Department of the Navy. A few months later, Bill decided for the first time that one plus one equaled more than two and he married Marilyn (Wenzloff) December 11, 1965 at First Baptist Church, New Britain, CT and two soon became four as they became the parents of Bill and Betsy. For over 30 years Bill worked for the Defense Department in various capacities. By the late 1980's Bill was Chief of a Contracts Team covering a wide geographic area in Southern New England. In the mid 1990's Bill volunteered for an extremely important assignment as Divisional Administrative Contracting Officer at DCAS Pratt & Whitney EH. He was respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of working with and for him. Bill lived in Connecticut and was active in the Bristol Baptist Church in Bristol until 1997 when he and Marilyn retired to East Orleans on Cape Cod. Once on the Cape, Bill and Marilyn became active members of the Brewster Baptist Church. Bill was elected Treasurer of the Church in January of 1998 and from that time until his death he served as Treasurer or Financial Manager overseeing all of the church's finances with great skill and personal integrity for over sixteen years. He was loved and appreciated by all of his co-workers and leaders in the congregation for his wisdom, insight, reliability, and good sense of humor and he helped the church to navigate successfully through periods of significant growth and a building campaign. Outside of work, Bill enjoyed golfing, reading, Sudoku, spending time with his two cats, Lucy and Barley, as well as his many friends near and afar. After his retirement he truly enjoyed his travels around the world; he especially loved his time in London and the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Having closed the books for the final time and presenting his final accounting as a faithful steward we trust that everything was found to be in order and that Bill was welcomed into the heavenly department of God's kingdom to fulfill a higher call. Besides his adoring wife Marilyn, Bill is survived by two children; son, William Morrow and daughter, Elizabeth Morrow; grandson, Matthew Morrow; brother, Thomas Morrow and his wife Barbara of CT; sister, Bonnie Yacknick and her husband Paul of MA; nieces Heidi Fallon, Krista Maloney, Meagan Morrow Hanbury, nephew Andrew Morrow and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his daughter in law, Kim Morrow. Donations may be made in Bill's name to: Brewster Baptist Church, and note Capital Campaign, 1848 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday May 5th at the Brewster Baptist Church, Route 6A, Brewster. Burial will be private.
